We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented applicant for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary NIH-funded team led by Dr. Hussein Yassine in close collaboration with several basic sciences, imaging, and clinical research programs at USC. The Keck School of Medicine is one of the nation’s leading medical schools, ranked in the top 30 schools for NIH funding, and is a leader in the field of Alzheimer’s disease. In 2021, the Department of Neurology at USC ranked number 4 in NIH funding across all US academic centers and offers an outstanding intellectual and multidisciplinary research environment with a commitment to translational research. The Yassine lab has a strong track record of supporting highly motivated postdocs aspiring leadership positions in academia and industry and has published in high-profile journals. Dr. Yassine leads the Research and Education Component of the USC Alzheimer’s disease Research Center (ADRC) that assists in the career development of fellows and junior faculty with an interest in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The prospective scientist should have experience working in the AD field. Our research focuses on understanding how apolipoprotein E4 contributes to AD pathology with a focus on immune cell activation by phospholipase A2. The project focuses on mechanisms of brain inflammation in Alzheimer’s involving microbiome studies, using both animal models and samples from clinical trials. The Yassine Lab actively collaborates with the School of Pharmacy, USC Bridge Institute for drug discovery, and Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute for in vivo brain imaging studies. The post doc will be working in an excellent environment in close collaboration with chemistry, imaging, and clinical trial experts.
Salary will exceed NIH NRSA pay scale and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
Requirements: Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) with a Neuroscience background preferred. A successful candidate should have experience working with AD mice models. The work will require experience in cell culture, immunology, molecular biology, and animal models. In addition, the Postdoctoral Scholar will have the responsibility of supervising students and technicians in the lab.
